There are many Slovak dialects, which are divided into three main groups (Eastern, Central and Western Slovak dialects) and a fourth so-called Lowland group of Slovak dialects which are spoken outside Slovakia (in Serbia, Hungary, Romania). Standard Slovak is based on the Central Slovak dialects.
